Information and Precursors
The Exception Summary report is built off of our new and improved reporting structure. More information about how to read and use this new structure can be found here and we suggest having read through this article first or watching the video about it here before continuing.
The exception summary report is a powerful tool to help you find and track things that that are outside of what you're hoping or expecting to see. We call these occurrences 'exceptions' and have prepared a report for you to find and deal with these when they come up.
Currently (more are coming!) our exception report can show you information on:
- Speed Violations
- Trip fuel mileage
- Trip core cycle time
- Unknown stop duration
- Camera Event
How it works:
To start using the report, you'll first need to define a date range to look at, and then create a new exception rule to report on.
- Using the fields at the top of the page, click the Query bar to define your date and organizations.
- Using the same fields at the top click the Exception Rules field, click on + Add Exception Rule then select the type of rule you'd like to create.
Depending on the exception rule you select, you'll be asked to define what counts as an exception for this rule. Each rule has the following parameters:
- Speed violation
- For more than __ seconds/minutes/hours.
- With average speed above __% of speed limit
- Trip Fuel Mileage
- Worse than __ (of a pre-determined list of units/measurements)
- Trip Core Cycle Time
- Above __ hours/minutes/seconds
- Unknown Stop Duration
- Above __ hours/minutes/seconds
- Camera Event
- Provider __ Lytx or Navistream
After setting your range, you can name your rule or keep the default name generated.
When finished, press the Save button.
Viewing/Reviewing Your Data
Upon saving your rule, the data table for the report will update to show you the data you've asked for. Every time your query is matched by data in the system a new row of data will generate. These rows contain information about the exception you've defined based on your configuration of the data table.
This report includes a few additional features over the base report. You can click the pop-out link on the far left of any data entry to view a map of where the exception occurred and a place for you to review the exception.
The speed violation map will show you where the driver started and stopped speeding based on your parameters.
The Trip Fuel Mileage, Trip Core Cycle Time, and Unknown Stop Duration maps will show you a breadcrumb map of the trip the driver was on.
To review an exception, click the 'Review' heading on top of the map view, then click +Add Review on the right side of the report.
Add your comments into the field that comes up onto the screen, then press save. Your comments will appear alongside your name and the date the comment was made for this exception.
Reviews are tied to the data that triggered them. That is to say, if you create two different rules that trigger exceptions based on the same set of data, then the comments will be tied to the time period or data that triggered it, not the rule itself. If you end up with multiple rows with reviews from reviewing a single exception this would be why.
Also, it's important to note that any additional comments or reviews on an exception will overwrite the original. If there's data you want to add later, make sure to include the original comment as well or it will be lost.
