Vehicle inspections are required by drivers to fill out every day for their vehicles, or have them filled out every day in their vehicles. Navistream allows a driver to complete the trip inspection (DVIR) on the driver's tablet, and have that inspection available for view on the Navistream web portal
Inspections are prompted on the tablet by the driver pressing Start Shift, and Log Out buttons and are labeled as pre-trip and post-trip respectively. A driver may also perform an inspection at any time from the inspections section of the application. When done in this fashion it’s labeled as an “other” inspection.
A driver uses the controls on screen to select any parts of their vehicle that have a defect present and mark it as such. These are categorized as major or minor defects. Navistream is preconfigured to have the Schedule 1 tractor and trailer inspections as outlined by the NSC pre-applied to our default vehicle types in Navistream. The classification of major/minor comes from the delegation present on these schedules.
Inspections are fully customizable and can be configured to be delivered to specific types of vehicles. A guide on how to do this can be found here.
Once submitted and signed by the driver, they’re sent to the Navistream server and are available for view on the web portal. Here, a user can see all the details about the inspection including the user who submitted it, the date and time, location, and a listing of all defects. This can be printed out, or emailed as a PDF for documentation reasons.
A user with the super administrator or mechanic role can access these inspections and mark defects as repaired and leave notes. If this is done, the next time an inspection is loaded on the tablet then it syncs down those changes and reports to the driver that the defects are repaired/not defective any longer.
